SUMMARY:Workshop: Indigenous Research Network: The Power of Inclusivity
DESCRIPTION:The GRA have partnered with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to establish the project series titled Indigenous Research Network: The Power of Inclusivity focused on gathering young emerging leaders to display on a global stage the value of inclusion in climate actions and decisions. We will be holding a virtual workshop on November 1\, 2023 from 10am-1pm NZT. \n\n\n\nRegister by the 22 October 2023 HERE. \n\n\n\nMore information including the agenda and speakers bios will be available in the upcoming weeks. \n\n\n\nThe project will: \n\n\n\n\nAdvocate the importance of inclusion of all people specifically young indigenous people as our future leaders in this space.\n\n\n\nPromote the positive role of Indigenous led methods to reduce the impacts of climate change in communities.\n\n\n\nConnect Indigenous communities together though the exchange of traditional knowledge and practices related to food safety and security.

SUMMARY:Webinar - Labs and kits: insights on soil analysis
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is being organised by FAO and is one of a series of online events orchestrated to facilitate the use of the Asian knowledge hub on sustainable soil and land management within the region. It specifically aims to: \n\n\n\n\nBreak preconceptions and myths around soil analysis;\n\n\n\nSupport countries on the development of reliable soil testing kits (STKs) by closing the gap between STKs and soil laboratories;\n\n\n\nInitiate the discussion on soil testing kits harmonization at the regional level;\n\n\n\nEncourage critical thinking regarding the integration of soil analysis in project formulation and execution; and\n\n\n\nCollaboratively brainstorm regional essential tools for leveraging soil data to attract investments.\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe concept note below contains more information and the draft agenda. \n\n\n\nConcept-note_Labs-and-kits_insights-on-soil-analysisDownload

SUMMARY:Seminar: GHG emissions & climate change mitigation in Mediterranean agricultural sectors
DESCRIPTION:On 15 and 16 November\, CIHEAM Zaragoza will host an international meeting on climate change and agriculture organised together with INIA-CSIC\, in the framework of Spain’s presidency of the Global Research Alliance on Greenhouse Gases\n\n\n\nThe event will bring together representatives from more than twenty countries as well as national and international institutions\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOn 15 and 16 November\, CIHEAM Zaragoza will organise an international seminar on greenhouse gas emissions and climate change mitigation in the Mediterranean agricultural sectors. The event has the collaboration and support of the National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology of the Spanish National Research Council (INIA-CSIC) in the framework of the presidency of the Global Research Alliance on Greenhouse Gases (GRA) and will bring together representatives from ministries\, international organisations (GRA\, PRIMA\, OECD\, FAO or the European Commission)\, as well as experts and scientists from countries in the Mediterranean basin and other Mediterranean climate zones of the world. \n\n\n\nThe agricultural sectors of these countries play an important role in the region’s economy and food security. However\, they also contribute to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions which\, as is well known\, have adverse effects on climate change. \n\n\n\nMitigating greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural sectors of the Mediterranean basin countries requires a multi-faceted approach that includes improved agricultural and livestock management techniques\, sustainable land management practices\, the adoption of renewable energies and supportive policies. By implementing these measures\, these countries can contribute to climate change mitigation while ensuring sustainable agricultural development. \n\n\n\nHowever\, the complexity of these issues\, the current gaps between countries in the accurate estimation of emissions\, and the common need to identify\, validate and test adaptive strategies for mitigation\, call for joint actions to strengthen research\, promote knowledge sharing on these issues and enhance the capacities of researchers in all Mediterranean countries. \n\n\n\nCIHEAM ZARAGOZA PROMOTES A MEDITERRANEAN NETWORK ON GHG MITIGATION \n\n\n\nThe aim of this event is to bring together experts from the countries of the Mediterranean basin to share the current state of scientific knowledge in the region on the quantification of emissions and mitigation\, as well as to explore the potential and feasibility of collaborative activities between experts and organisations in these countries to transfer knowledge\, methods and experiences\, strengthen scientific cooperation and reduce identified knowledge gaps. Ultimately\, to create the starting point for a Mediterranean network on GHG mitigation in the agricultural\, livestock\, forestry and land use change sectors. \n\n\n\nIn-person participation in the seminar is by invitation only\, but there are open sessions that can be followed face-to-face or on-line via streaming. \n\n\n\nThe programme and registration link for the open sessions can be found HERE.
