SUMMARY:International Temperate Rice Conference 2024
DESCRIPTION:The International Temperate Rice Conference will be held June 5-8\, 2024\, at the Marriott Hotel on Canal Street in New Orleans\, Louisiana\, USA. This is a continuation of the very successful scientific meetings that have been held since the first in New South Wales\, Australia in 1994. The meeting will be jointly hosted by the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center (LSU AgCenter) and the USA Rice Federation. The meeting will have scientific presentations\, posters\, etc. on June 6 & 7 followed by a tour to the southwest Louisiana rice production region which is the birthplace of modern rice production in the U.S.A. \n\n\n\nThe conference website is live at www.lsuagcenter.com/2024itrc \n\n\n\nDates of note – presentation abstracts due by February 1\, 2024. Early registration ends on March 15\, 2024. There will be a tour to the rice area of Southwest Louisiana on Saturday\, June 8\, however it will be limited to the first 110 who register for it. To attend this online webinar\, click on the registration link HERE. \n\n\n\nChair: \n\n\n\nHero Gollany\, Co-chair of the GRA Croplands Research Group (USDA-Agricultural Research Service – CPCRC\, USA) \n\n\n\nSpeaker bios: \n\n\n\nCraig Drury (Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada) \n\n\n\nDr. Craig Drury is a soil biochemist with Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada at the Harrow Research & Development Centre in Southwestern Ontario. He obtained his BSc and MSc from McGill University and his PhD in soil science from the University of Guelph. Craig’s primary research focus is to develop soil and crop management practices to reduce ammonia volatilization and nitrous oxide emissions from agricultural soils while enhancing soil health and crop yields. Craig is the national lead for the reactive N indicator in Canada.  He is the Canadian representative on the Croplands Research Group and the ‘Conservation and Nitrogen Management’ network lead. Craig is a Fellow and Past President of the Canadian Society of Soil Science.  He has served as Editor for the Canadian Journal of Soil Science\, served on the Editorial board of Agriculture Ecosystems & Environment and he is currently an Associate Editor for the Soil Science Society of America Journal. Craig has published 262 peer-reviewed papers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDiego Abalos (Aarhus University\, Department of Agroecology\, Denmark) \n\n\n\nDr Diego Abalos is a Senior Researcher at Aarhus University\, Department of Agroecology (Denmark). His research ambition is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve nutrient cycling in agroecosystems\, while maintaining optimum production levels under current and future climatic conditions. His research group combines empirical and modelling approaches to design efficient and diversified cropping systems\, pointing the way for the sustainable management of the land and its nutrient cycles. Diego is an Associate Editor for Geoderma and Agronomy for Sustainable Development\, and member of the Editorial Board of Agriculture Ecosystems & Environment. He is currently leading several national and international projects funded by public and private donors. Diego has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles\, including several highly cited articles.
