SUMMARY:Rice Technical Working Group 2025 Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Rice Technical Working Group (RTWG) meets at least biennially to provide for continuous exchange of information\, cooperative planning\, and periodic review of all phases of rice research and extension being carried out by the states\, federal government\, and cooperating agencies. It develops proposals for future work\, which are suggested to the participating agencies for implementation. \n\n\n\nThe RTWG 2025 conference will be held at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside in New Orleans\, Louisiana. Dates for the conference are February 17-20\, 2025. \n\n\n\nAlthough still in the preliminary stages\, we are confident that we are planning an eagerly anticipated meeting. In addition to the traditional presentations and posters showcasing rice research\, we are planning several symposiums to address issues impacting the rice industry.   One of those symposiums will be an educational workshop specifically targeted to consultants and rice industry personnel.  Topics planned for that workshop are 1) Factors Influencing Milling Quality\, 2) Fungicide Combinations and Timing\, and 3) New Herbicide Technology.  Other symposiums planned will address Invasive Species and Influences of Consumer Demand for Rice.    The symposiums will take place on the afternoon of Monday\, February 17th while the research presentations and display of research posters will take place starting on the afternoon of Tuesday\, February 18th through Wednesday\, February 19th.  \n\n\n\nSome dates of interest for the 2025 RTWG meeting: \n\n\n\n·         October 18\, 2024 – Deadline for submission of interpretative summary for presented papers and posters \n\n\n\n·         December 6\, 2024 – Deadline for submission of award nomination packets \n\n\n\n·         December 13\, 2024 – Deadline for submission abstracts of accepted presented papers and posters \n\n\n\n·         January 17\, 2025 – Deadline for registering for the conference without a late fee \n\n\n\n·         January 17\, 2025 – Deadline for hotel reservations under conference room block \n\n\n\nFor more information about the meeting\, please visit https://RTWG.org  \n\n\n\nWe hope that you will join us in New Orleans in February.  Please pass this information onto colleagues that you feel may be interested.

SUMMARY:OECD webinar: Farm-level tools in practice: ECOGAN in Spain
DESCRIPTION:The OECD is holding a webinar on the Spanish ECOGAN tool for farm-level GHG calculations on Tuesday 18 February\, from 4pm-5pm Paris time. \n\n\n\nIn 2023-2024\, OECD work explored the building blocks needed for measuring carbon footprints of agri-food products. On 24 February\, they will publish their report Measuring Carbon Footprints of Agri-Food Products\, which discusses the eight building blocks in detail. A crucial building block is the availability of reliable and easy-to-use farm-level calculation tools. \n\n\n\nThe Spanish Ministry for Agriculture\, Fisheries and Food has been developing and implementing the ECOGAN tool\, a farm-level calculation tool tailored to Spanish agriculture. The tool not only allows farmers to estimate greenhouse gas emissions\, but also resource consumption and emission of other pollutants. The tool makes it easier for farmers to meet reporting requirements\, while the information on farm-level practices is used in compiling Spain’s national inventory of greenhouse gas emissions. \n\n\n\nDuring the webinar\, Javier Piquer Vidal (Ministry of Agriculture\, Fisheries and Food\, Spain) will be presenting the ECOGAN tool and how it was developed.
