SUMMARY:ESPP Workshop: Nutrient Sustainability In The Intensive Livestock Sector
DESCRIPTION:5-7th March 2025: Phosphorus use and recycling in intensive livestock \n\n\n\nThis event will focus on making livestock production\, animal feed\, and manure and digestate management more circular. The workshop will help create a UNEP report on sustainable nutrient use in livestock farming.How can we balance efficient nutrient management in intensive livestock farming with social benefits (such as lower prices and regional agri-food specialisation) while tackling nutrient imbalances in certain areas? \n\n\n\n•    Location: Saint Malo\, Brittany (with some sessions online)•    Topics Covered: Sustainable livestock nutrient management; How nutrients move in livestock production; The impact of different diets on nutrient use; Animal feed\, farming methods\, and nutrient footprints; Life cycle analysis (LCA) of livestock production; Recycling and reusing manure nutrients•    Participants: Experts from UNEP (United Nations)\, the European Commission (DG AGRI\, DG RTD)\, livestock farmers\, meat producers\, the agri-food industry\, environmental organisations\, and researchers.•    Organisers: UNEP uPcycle\, Roullier (fertilisers\, animal nutrition\, food industry)\, Cooperl (Brittany pig farmers and pork industry solutions)\, ESPP\, BETA Technological Center\, UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH). \n\n\n\nIn-person participants have the opportunity of site visits:•    Roullier’s Global Research Centre (fertilisers and agriculture)•    Minerallium\, a unique experience exploring minerals from Earth’s origins to plants\, animals and humans•    Cooperl’s waste to resource vision and processes\, with the Bulle Environment immersive showroom•    Couiclang pig farm\, state-of-the-art pork production sustainability \n\n\n\nOn-site participation limited to 60 persons to enable active discussion\, white paper drafting\, site visits. SUMMARY:OECD webinar: New Zealand’s standardized methodology for estimating farm-level emissions
DESCRIPTION:The OECD is holding a webinar on New Zealand’s standardized methodology for estimating farm-level emissions. Spanish ECOGAN tool for farm-level GHG calculations on Tuesday 11 March from 10:30am to 11:30am Paris time. \n\n\n\nMPI worked with the agriculture sector to develop a standard way to estimate on-farm greenhouse gas emissions. This methodology was released on 13 December 2024. Currently there are more than 10 emissions calculators\, all using different methods to estimate emissions. Our standardized estimation is a key step towards pricing emissions in the future and will support on-farm emissions measurement by 2025. Having a standard method will also enable new products and features that improve farm management and reporting. \n\n\n\nOn 24 February the OECD published report Measuring Carbon Footprints of Agri-Food Products\, which discusses the eight building blocks needed for measuring carbon footprints of agri-food products. Two crucial building blocks are the availability of scientific methods\, and reliable and easy-to-use farm-level calculation tools. One challenge is that existing farm-level tools often use different methods\, leading to different results for the same farm. DESCRIPTION:The Climate and Clean Air Conference 2025 is set to take place from March 16–21\, 2025\, in Brasília\, Brazil. This year’s theme\, “Preparing for COP30: Tackling Super Pollutants to Avoid the Catastrophic Overshoot of 1.5°C\,” highlights the urgent need for decisive action. The event will bring together country representatives\, global experts\, and changemakers\, united with over 180 partners\, to drive accelerated solutions for mitigating super pollutants and safeguarding our planet’s future. \n\n\n\nThis year\, we will focus on NDCs 3.0 commitments as investment plans\, hold a Science-Policy Dialogue on Super Pollutants\, explore gender equity as a driver of action\, and sectoral policies that can drive mitigation. Sharing experiences from action at home and demonstrating leadership – be it as GMP and Clean Air champion countries or driving a sectoral or regional topic or pathway – will help us bring a strong message to COP30. \n\n\n\nParticipants will engage in high-level dialogues with country representatives\, top scientists\, and civil society leaders to shape the future of the climate and clean air agenda with an emphasis on a just transition.
