SUMMARY:Webinar: Commissioning and managing agriculture inventory research projects
DESCRIPTION:Join the Inventories and NDC (I&NDC) Network on 5 July from 18:00 – 19:30 (GMT/UTC) for the third session of their 2022 webinar series titled “Commissioning and managing agriculture inventory research projects”. \n\n\n\nIt is crucial to effectively determine research priorities when resources for research are limited. Developing multilateral research projects and working with international research organisations facilitates collaboration across countries with similar production systems and agricultural circumstances. \n\n\n\nIn the first part of the session\, we will hear from experts on the process of designing research to meet inventory needs and ensuring new research results in inventory improvements. In the discussion\, we will consider multinational research prioritisation: timing\, scaling and developing research projects with higher global relevance. \n\n\n\nSpeakers include: \n\n\n\nChair: Claudia Arndt\, ILRI\, KenyaCarlos Gomez\, Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina\, PeruJoel Gibbs\, Ministry for Primary Industries\, New ZealandHeinz Flessa\, Thünen Institute\, GermanySanaa Enkhtaivan\, International Consultant\, Switzerland\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker Biographies \n\n\n\nJoel Gibbs\, Agriculture GHG Inventory Team Leader\, New Zealand \n\n\n\nJoel Gibbs leads New Zealand’s agriculture inventory team and directs the national inventory research procurement process. For several years Joel has been increasing the visibility of the New Zealand’s inventory research needs and established strong research relationships with the national and international GHG science community. He is a qualified UNFCCC expert inventory reviewer and has participated in several international reviews. \n\n\n\nHeinz Flessa\, Director\, Thünen Institute\, Germany \n\n\n\nHeinz Flessa is currently the Director of Thünen Institute and previously directed Thünen’s Institute of Agricultural Climate Research. Through his research as a Temperate and Boreal Soil Scientist\, Heinz has worked for several years alongside the German inventory team and was one of the lead contributors to Germany’s first national soil inventory. His research interests include carbon and nitrogen dynamics in soils\, soils as sources and sinks of greenhouse gases\, the effects of land use and climate change on element dynamics in terrestrial ecosystems and stable isotopes in biogeochemical research. Heinz has led the coordination of and contributed to several research projects related to climate protection in agriculture\, the effect of land use\, management\, and site conditions on GHG emissions and controls of carbon and nitrogen dynamics in soils. \n\n\n\nCarlos Alfredo Gomez Bravo\, Principal Professor\, Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina\, Peru \n\n\n\nCarlos Gomez has been a Professor and researcher at the Faculty of Zootechnics of the La Molina Agrarian University since 1980\, specializing in sustainable livestock production and ruminant nutrition. SUMMARY:Webinar: National agriculture inventory data collection and management
DESCRIPTION:Join the Inventories and NDC (I&NDC) Network on 14 June from 18:00 – 19:30 (GMT/UTC) for the second session of their 2022 webinar series titled “National agriculture inventory data collection and management”. \n\n\n\nPolicies for agriculture mitigation strategies\, as we discussed in the first webinar of the I&NDC Network series\, are shaped by accurate national agriculture emissions estimates. However\, estimates are only as good as the data that underpin them. National activity data collection and its management is a universal challenge for compilers from Annex I and non-Annex II countries alike. \n\n\n\nThe aim of this webinar is to increase awareness on overcoming a lack of good quality data\, and on setting up data management frameworks to support increasing emissions reporting from Tier 1 to Tier 2 levels. The session will bring together expert speakers whose work focuses on improving agriculture inventory activity data related issues. \n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker Biographies \n\n\n\nAndreas Wilkes – ASEAN and Africa Inventory Capability Building Programme Lead\, NZAGRC \n\n\n\nAndreas is leading New Zealand’s Inventory Capability Building efforts in ASEAN and African countries and has extensive experience in livestock emission MRV and mitigation. Andreas was the lead author of the GRA FAO Livestock Activity Data Guidance which provides guidance on how to collect and analyze the activity data required for Tier 2 livestock GHG inventories. He will present some practical experiences from developing countries\, and reflections on the implications for continuous improvement and research. \n\n\n\nStephen Ogle – Associate Director\, Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory\, CSU | Professor\, Department of Ecosystem Science and Sustainability\, CSU \n\n\n\nStephen’s research focus is improving national GHG inventories\, better understanding socioeconomic drivers of land use and management decisions\, and predicting the likelihood of future GHG mitigation in agricultural lands. Stephen has contributed as an instructor to numerous science and government inventory training workshops. He was a contributing lead author for the 2019 IPCC Refinement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines of Volume 4\, AFOLU.
