DESCRIPTION:The International Temperate Rice Conference will be held June 5-8\, 2024\, at the Marriott Hotel on Canal Street in New Orleans\, Louisiana\, USA. This is a continuation of the very successful scientific meetings that have been held since the first in New South Wales\, Australia in 1994. The meeting will be jointly hosted by the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center (LSU AgCenter) and the USA Rice Federation. The meeting will have scientific presentations\, posters\, etc. on June 6 & 7 followed by a tour to the southwest Louisiana rice production region which is the birthplace of modern rice production in the U.S.A. \n\n\n\nThe conference website is live at www.lsuagcenter.com/2024itrc \n\n\n\nDates of note – presentation abstracts due by February 1\, 2024. Early registration ends on March 15\, 2024. There will be a tour to the rice area of Southwest Louisiana on Saturday\, June 8\, however it will be limited to the first 110 who register for it. DESCRIPTION:On 15 and 16 November\, CIHEAM Zaragoza will host an international meeting on climate change and agriculture organised together with INIA-CSIC\, in the framework of Spain’s presidency of the Global Research Alliance on Greenhouse Gases\n\n\n\nThe event will bring together representatives from more than twenty countries as well as national and international institutions\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOn 15 and 16 November\, CIHEAM Zaragoza will organise an international seminar on greenhouse gas emissions and climate change mitigation in the Mediterranean agricultural sectors. The event has the collaboration and support of the National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology of the Spanish National Research Council (INIA-CSIC) in the framework of the presidency of the Global Research Alliance on Greenhouse Gases (GRA) and will bring together representatives from ministries\, international organisations (GRA\, PRIMA\, OECD\, FAO or the European Commission)\, as well as experts and scientists from countries in the Mediterranean basin and other Mediterranean climate zones of the world. \n\n\n\nThe agricultural sectors of these countries play an important role in the region’s economy and food security. However\, they also contribute to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions which\, as is well known\, have adverse effects on climate change. \n\n\n\nMitigating greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural sectors of the Mediterranean basin countries requires a multi-faceted approach that includes improved agricultural and livestock management techniques\, sustainable land management practices\, the adoption of renewable energies and supportive policies. By implementing these measures\, these countries can contribute to climate change mitigation while ensuring sustainable agricultural development. \n\n\n\nHowever\, the complexity of these issues\, the current gaps between countries in the accurate estimation of emissions\, and the common need to identify\, validate and test adaptive strategies for mitigation\, call for joint actions to strengthen research\, promote knowledge sharing on these issues and enhance the capacities of researchers in all Mediterranean countries. \n\n\n\nCIHEAM ZARAGOZA PROMOTES A MEDITERRANEAN NETWORK ON GHG MITIGATION \n\n\n\nThe aim of this event is to bring together experts from the countries of the Mediterranean basin to share the current state of scientific knowledge in the region on the quantification of emissions and mitigation\, as well as to explore the potential and feasibility of collaborative activities between experts and organisations in these countries to transfer knowledge\, methods and experiences\, strengthen scientific cooperation and reduce identified knowledge gaps. SUMMARY:Webinar - "Soil inorganic carbon: The often unaccounted yet irrecoverable carbon pool"
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is being organised by “4 per 1000” and is the second in their soil carbon science webinar series.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSoil inorganic carbon (SIC)\, a pivotal component of terrestrial carbon stocks\, contributes to up to half of the terrestrial C stock and holds significance in arid and semi-arid environments. Despite its importance in agriculture\, CO2 sequestration\, and climate regulation\, SIC has received less attention compared to soil organic carbon (SOC). Recent findings challenge the notion of SIC’s negligible contribution to the global carbon cycle\, revealing its susceptibility to climate change and agricultural practices. Additionally SOC and SIC are interrelated and we need to account for both SOC and SIC to build a complete picture of the soil C cycle. This session will be moderated by Dr. Yasukazu Hosen\, Co-Chair of the GRA Paddy Rice Research Group\, and Prof. Yu’e Li from the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture\, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences\, who often attends GRA Council Meetings\, and Dr. Valdivia Roberto\, Associate Professor at Oregon State University\, who attended the last Council Meeting in Spain\, will also attend as speakers.
