DESCRIPTION:The international conference on ‘Zero Greenhouse Emission in High Productive Agriculture – ZEA’ will be held 3 – 5 May 2022 in Copenhagen\, Denmark. The conference is organised by Aarhus University and hosted and financially supported by Novo Nordisk Foundation and the venue is Tuborg Havnevej 19\, DK-2600 Hellerup. \n\n\n\nGreenhouse gas emissions from agriculture originate from livestock\, manure\, soils\, land use and fossil fuels. In this\, beef production systems can play an important role and help to improve soil health. Different ways exist to sequester more carbon (C) in the soil. A known practice\, yet newly discovered in some regions\, is agroforestry. \n\n\n\nIn this webinar\, we will talk about this practice and highlight some of the key issues for applying agroforestry. We will also look at a calculation tool (Cap2er) to calculate the carbon footprint and how C is included. We will end with an overview of rewarding schemes for C sequestration.

Carbon-rich soils increase the resilience of agricultural systems due to their improved water holding capacity\, soil aggregation and nutrient supply and hence\, contribute to food security. At the same time\, carbon sequestration in soils is regarded as one important nature-based solution to mitigate climate change. Nevertheless\, the concepts proposed by scientists\, how to improve soil health and soil fertility vary widely\, and significant discrepancies exists around the need for chemical inputs to quickly increase food and other biomass production. DESCRIPTION:Join the NZAGRC for their next State of Science webinar on their research into options for mitigating agricultural greenhouse gas emissions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresenters: Tanira Kingi (Emeritus Scientist\, Scion) and Phil Journeaux (AgFirst) \n\n\n\nChair: Chris Koroheke (AgResearch) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMāori are significant contributors to the primary sector. Around 5.7% of Aotearoa is in Māori ownership\, most of which is Māori freehold land – governed by collective structures and passed down from generation to generation. \n\n\n\nSince 2015\, the NZAGRC has had a Māori research programme\, supporting individual Māori-owned farms to understand and reduce their agricultural greenhouse gas emissions. \n\n\n\nThe programme has entered a new phase with the launch of Takahuri Whenua – a major project partnering with three Māori Collectives to support their ambitions to achieve a high-value\, low-emissions bio-economy within their tribal rohe. \n\n\n\nTakahuri Whenua will see the development of a framework that will help Collectives explore options for reducing agricultural greenhouse gas emissions across multiple land-holdings\, while meeting the expectations of their extensive landowner communities. As part of this\, farm system and land use change (forestry and/or horticulture) options for eighteen case study farms (six for each Collective) will be modelled. \n\n\n\nProject leaders\, Tanira Kingi and Phil Journeaux\, will introduce the project\, its history and context\, the modelling work and next steps prior to its completion in June 2023. \n\n\n\nDuring the webinar\, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions using Zoom’s chat function. Phil and Tanira will use the final 20 minutes of the session to answer as many questions as possible. DESCRIPTION:One of the Circular Food Systems Network’s objectives is to support collaboration\, share knowledge and connect researchers from all over the world. During the 2021 CFS Network kick-off workshop\, several new collaborations to research circularity in different food systems around the world emerged. \n\n\n\nOn 28th January 2022\, four case study leaders will share their approach\, first insights and questions they have. It is an informal meeting\, in which exchange between the case studies is key. SUMMARY:Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA)
DESCRIPTION:The Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) is an international conference on central issues of vital importance for global agricultural and food policies. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has not yet been overcome worldwide\, the GFFA will once again take place in a virtual format. \n\n\n\nThe GFFA is hosted by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) in cooperation with the Berlin Senate\, Messe Berlin GmbH and GFFA Berlin e.V. \n\n\n\nThe five-day forum features a large number of events that provide 3\,000 participants from the worlds of politics\, industry\, science\, and civil society with an opportunity to address and reach consensus on issues and challenges relating to global agricultural policy and food security. \n\n\n\nIn the past\, high-level keynote speakers such as António Guterres\, Josefa Sacko\, Angela Merkel\, Ban Ki-moon\, and Prince Charles joined the GFFA line-up. \n\n\n\nThe political highlight of the GFFA is the Berlin Agriculture Ministers’ Conference which is not open to the public. It is the world’s largest conference of agriculture ministers\, attended by around 70 agriculture ministers. High-level representatives from more than 10 international organisations such as the FAO\, OECD\, WTO and World Bank also attend the conference.
