The Future of Rice Contributing to Decarbonization

As part of the upcoming biennial Tsukuba Conference (26-28 September 2023) there will be a session titled “The Future of Rice Contributing to Decarbonization” on 27 September. This session will be moderated by Dr. Yasukazu Hosen, Co-Chair of the GRA Paddy Rice Research Group, and Prof. Yu’e Li from the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, who often attends GRA Council Meetings, and Dr. Valdivia Roberto, Associate Professor at Oregon State University, who attended the last Council Meeting in Spain, will also attend as speakers. At the session, the following topics will be presented by experts from various fields and discussed as a whole on the future of rice cultivation as it should be.
1) Ultimate paddy management
2) Manipulating microorganisms
3) Viewing from afar (e.g., GHG emission estimation through remote sensing)
4) Estimating and forecasting (e.g., through modeling)
5) Systems that benefit everyone (e.g., carbon credit systems)
6) Ultimate policy
