Spain joined the GRA at the Alliance’s launch in Copenhagen in December 2009 and signed the Charter at the Ministerial Summit in Rome, June 2011. Spain participates in all Research Groups of the GRA through the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INIA).
Spain has proved a valuable contributor to the GRA and its priorities. Spain is:
- Current Chair of the GRA (2023)
- Third Co-Chair of the Croplands Research Group
Spain has a wealth of experience in agricultural greenhouse gas research and in particular, is involved in one of the New Zealand-led Livestock Group projects, co-authoring a technical manual on alternative designs for low-cost methane respiration chambers.

The 12th annual Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) Council meeting will be held on 23-26 April 2023 in Madrid, Spain.
