NZAGRC State of Science Webinar Series
NZAGRC State of Science Webinar Series
December 10 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am NZDT
Join us as Louis Schipper and Owen Fenton discuss the challenges of managing soil carbon on agricultural peatlands.
A surprisingly high share of New Zealand’s carbon dioxide emissions comes from a tiny proportion of soil – peat bogs that have been drained to support productive agriculture. Estimates indicate that drained peatlands in New Zealand (<1% of the land area) contribute about 8% of our national net greenhouse gas emissions. A similar emissions profile is estimated for Ireland. Is there anything we can do to manage this? Take the opportunity to come and listen to a couple of the top researchers in this area and be updated on the latest research surrounding peatlands and greenhouse gases.
This webinar is part of the 2024 NZAGRC State of the Science webinar series and a collaborative effort between Teagasc and the NZAGRC.
Tuesday 10th December 2024, 10.00am to 11.00am NZT
Who should participate?
This webinar is relevant to researchers, farmers, rural professionals, policy advisors and anyone else involved or interested in efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from New Zealand and Ireland’s primary sector.
