Webinar: Nitrogen mineral fertilisers, updates on methodologies and relevant work for inventory improvement

May 16 @ 8:00 am 9:10 am NZST

This webinar is aimed to researchers, students and the general public interested in the use of different methodologies to quantify nitrous oxide emissions and ammonia volatilization from agroecosystems, their advantages, and challenges for their implementation. We will also touch on how to use the information generated for national inventories improvement, and we will also provide an update on the development of the N flagship from the GRA.

SPEAKERS

Mrs Sara Hube, INIA Chile

She is chemist, was trained on greenhouse gas measurement and emissions factors determination and supported the implementation of the technique in Chile, especially all analytical techniques associated. She currently works as a researcher for the National Sustainable Agrosystems Program. Her research focuses on determining the environmental impact of agrosystems, with a special emphasis on determining greenhouse gases from soil, following nitrogen fertilizer application in crops and pastures, and methane in rice cultivation.

She is an institutional representative for the Global Research Alliance, in the Croplands Research Group.

Dr. Shaun Connolly

Research officer studying emissions from the manure management chain. Graduated from the University of Galway with a bachelor’s degree in science and PhD in the University of Galway on the Green Energy Boosting Technology (GEBTech) project, developing and optimizing a slurry amendment to reduce storage emissions and had positive repercussions for downstream anaerobic digestion.

Great interest in emissions from the manure management chain, the understanding of where they come from, factors that influence their production and how can they be mitigated. His research interests lie in greenhouse gas and ammonia emissions from manure management for the development of a sustainable farming system.
