Webinar: Regional support to national livestock GHG inventories in Southern Africa

April 21, 2023 @ 9:00 am 12:15 pm SAST

Regional support to national livestock Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventories in Southern Africa: key lessons from the regional inventory compilation approach

FANRPAN, the University of Pretoria, the New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Centre, and the Africa LEDS Partnership invite you to a special webinar dedicated to sharing lessons and experiences from their Regional Tier 2 Inventory Compilations from Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, and Mozambique.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries recognize the need for adaptation to climate change and mitigation through the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, especially from cattle that are responsible for most of the greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector. To better identify policies and measures that align with national adaptation and mitigation efforts, there is a need for more advanced methods of compiling GHG inventories that are aligned to livestock development objectives and tracking progress towards Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) emission reduction targets. This means progressing from the current Tier 1 methods used by most countries in compiling their inventories to Tier 2 methods.
