Repository of Cattle GHG mitigation strategies in Latin American Southern Cone
The Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) is pleased to share a new regional repository bringing together scientific and technical information on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions measurement and mitigation in beef and dairy cattle production across the Southern Cone.
Developed through the GANASUR project, with joint funding from PROCISUR and the Government of New Zealand’s Climate Smart Agriculture Initiative as part of its contribution to the GRA, the repository consolidates previously dispersed research from across the region.
The repository includes over 160 studies on enteric methane (CH₄), soil emissions of nitrous oxide (N₂O), methane (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂), and ammonia (NH₃) volatilisation associated with cattle production. Information is organised using standardised criteria, including country, production system, animal category, gas measured, measurement methodology, mitigation strategy and trial location.
The resource provides an accessible evidence base to support national GHG inventories, identify research and data gaps, compare mitigation approaches and experimental methodologies, and strengthen opportunities for collaboration among researchers across the Southern Cone.
The repository is a dynamic resource that will continue to be updated as new information and relevant research become available.
