The World Resources Institute (WRI) is currently seeking a Manager, Agricultural Methane.
Job Summary: Methane, a highly potent greenhouse gas, traditionally has been overlooked. But that is changing. At COP26 in Glasgow, the United States and the European Union launched the “Global Methane Pledge” to cut methane emissions by at least 30% by 2030 relative to 2020 levels. While this is a very positive development, much of the attention to date has focused on achieving methane reductions in the oil and gas sector. Considerably less attention has been given to methane reductions from the agricultural sector. Yet agricultural production (e.g., cattle, dairy, rice) accounts for ~46% of global anthropogenic methane emissions, and emissions from organic material in landfills (much of which is food waste) contributes another 18%. WRI seek to change that lack of attention. Supporting those countries which made a Global Methane Pledge, WRI and partners will bridge solutions and policy to scale adoption of technologies and practices that would reduce methane from the food and agricultural system.
This position will lead WRI’s research efforts on agriculture methane reduction, providing the science and policy foundations for the four pillars of the WRI strategy.

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a consultant for a systematic literature review on adaptation practices in livestock in response to climate change in Kenya.
Background: Literature describing adaptation practices regarding livestock farming in detail is rare. Most research focuses on describing the impacts of climate change and then allocates varying farming practices as adaptation practice, presuming local land users adopted these as a linear response to climate change. To address these misconceptions, the adaptation team is conducting a systematic literature review to compare different adaptation practices and the underlying drivers in Kenya’s livestock systems. The review will enhance the understanding of adaptation responses and their effectiveness in reducing climate change risks.

The second-order draft of the chapters of the Global Peatlands Assessment (GPA) is now available for external open peer review.
The GPA is one of the flagship products being developed under the Global Peatlands Initiative (GPI). The assessment aims to establish the State of the World’s Peatlands and will be important as a basis for work towards a future Global Peatlands Inventory. Together with other GPI flagship products, such as the Global Peatland Map and the Global Hotspot Atlas of Peatlands, the GPA is part of the GPI’s mission to support countries to address the challenges they face due to peatland degradation and loss.
The draft chapters have previously undergone internal and external expert peer review processes, and your feedback is now kindly requested during this open peer review period to advise how the current drafts could be improved before publication. Feedback can be submitted until COB 26th of August.
If you would like to view the draft chapters and contribute to the GPA open peer review process, please sign this declaration form.
For further information please contact the GPA Development team.

The GRA has partnered with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and Global Dairy Platform to produce a brief “The role of animal health in national climate commitments”. The brief provides three case studies from projects in the Sahel (World Bank), Kyrgystan (IFAD) and France as examples for policy makers and those in the livestock sector wanting to capture the co-benefits of cattle health as part of their climate commitments. The brief also includes guidelines on quantifying the impact on GHG emissions from animal health interventions.
See the work of the Animal Health Network to learn more about the role of animal health and the reduction of greenhouse gases.
